“Bob and Marcia are two of the most amazing Hakomi practitioners and trainers in the world. They totally embody the work individually and as a couple. I highly recommend any Hakomi workshop or training they are offering to anyone wanting to experience the essence and spirit of Hakomi as well as the practical application of the method.”
–Donna Martin, Ron Kurtz’s most Senior Trainer and Legacy Holder
Marcia Burton is a Certified Hakomi Practitioner and Senior Trainer. Marcia trained with, and continued to work closely with Ron Kurtz, creator of the Hakomi method until his deathin 2011. She has taught in England, Ireland, USA and Canada. Marcia has an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Since 2000, she has used Hakomi to support individuals and families experiencing the effects of bereavement, trauma, stress-related illness, cancer, and challenges in relationship. She currently works for Island Health Authority as a counsellor for those experiencing mental health and substance use issues. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC.
She has had a mindfulness practice since 1994, which includes a combination of meditation, qi gong, Hakomi, and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). “One of the many things I love about Hakomi is that it provides a framework for me to extend mindfulness and compassion into my daily life, my relationships, and my work. Hakomi reminds me to be inspired by life, and to trust the wisdom in ourselves as living beings, being blessed with a natural inclination towards healing.”
Marcia has completed the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Teacher Training and is offering 8 week courses in MSC on Salt Spring Island, starting in September 2016. (Look on Home Page under “Training and Workshops” for details.) MSC is and evidence-based model, developed by Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff. Marcia is delighted to have found another mindfulness-based method that is as gentle as Hakomi. Both use individual mindful practices and exercises in small/large groups. The main difference being the emphasis in MSC is on developing emotional resources rather than on self-study. MSC offers a beautiful set of practices to enhance one’s connection to self, to encourage motivation through kindness not criticism, and generally to shift our attention towards being nourished by life, and away from being hard on ourselves.
Marcia brings a combination of gentleness, compassion, humour and playfulness to her work. She lives on Salt Spring Island, with her husband, Bob Milone. She enjoys kayaking, gardening, playing pickleball, and walking on the beach.
Bob Milone began studying with Ron Kurtz, creator of the Hakomi Method, in 1993, and worked closely with him until his death in 2011. Bob was named in Ron’s will as one of seven “legacy holders” of his work. He is a Certified Hakomi Practitioner and Senior Hakomi Trainer who teaches internationally leading trainings and workshops in Canada, Israel, the U.S., Mexico, the U.K., and Ireland. He also works in private practice with individuals and couples.
As well as Hakomi, Bob’s training includes Degrees in theatre and education, and two years of graduate study in counseling and family therapy. A variety of work/life experience including social work, teaching, development work in Haiti, parenting, and house building, have all contributed to who he is today.
Bob lives on Salt Spring Island with his wife, Marcia. He is a grandfather, a sailor, a woodworker, and the father of two grown sons.
“I’ve known Bob for nearly two decades. He’s one of the finest people I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. He’s a great teacher and a true master of the Hakomi Method.”
